There are many adoptable children living in orphanages in Kazakhstan. Available children range in age from infant to 3 years old. Most children are healthy, but some have special needs. Children are routinely tested for HIV (AIDS) and Hepatitis. The children are typically ethnic Kazakh-Asian (Caucasian, Asian or Eurasian descent) with light to medium skin, usually with Asian eyes and soft, dark hair.

The Republic of Kazakhstan, a large Eurasian country situated south of Russia and West of China, just  celebrated the thirteenth anniversary of its independence in 2004. Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in area in the world, but it has a relatively small population of 15 million. In 2000, the Government of Kazakhstan completed its move to the new capital, Astana. For the time being, the U.S. Embassy remains in Almaty, the country's largest city, business center, and transportation hub. Adoptive parents will travel to Almaty to complete their adoption.
