The IFS Bulgaria program offers an excellent alternative to people looking for a one to seven year-old child. Since it is an escort-optional program, the adoptive parents may elect to take one trip to Bulgaria and let the child be escorted home when the adoption is completed. Bulgarian laws make the adoption process longer than other Eastern European programs. When your dossier is complete and translated, you will travel to Bulgaria to see the child that has been referred to you and sign the Intent to Adopt. This trip can be done in approximately three to five days. The adoption is then completed in Bulgaria. This can take up to six months. You then have the option to return to Bulgaria to pick up the child (three to five days), or you may elect to have the child escorted to the U.S. Requirements for Adopting Parent(s):
